Hotel photography FAQ

Why should a hotel invest in professional photography instead of using smartphone images?

Professional hotel photography showcases your property at its very best. While smartphone content is fine for quick social media posts, it rarely captures the lighting, scale, and atmosphere of a hotel interior. Professionally lit and edited images reflect the quality of your service and facilities, and help potential guests picture themselves staying with you. In a competitive London hotel market, strong visuals directly influence bookings.

How does professional photography help increase direct bookings and brand reputation?

High-quality hotel photography increases guest confidence. Guests who see polished, realistic images are more likely to book direct rather than via OTAs. Photography also strengthens your brand identity by creating a consistent, professional look across your website, social media, and advertising campaigns.

How often should a hotel update its photography?

Most hotels update their photography every 2–3 years, or sooner if you’ve undergone refurbishment, rebranded, or added new spaces such as a restaurant or wellness area. Fresh photography ensures your marketing visuals remain current, competitive, and aligned with guest expectations.

How many images will I receive from a hotel photo shoot?

This depends on your chosen package. A full-day hotel photography shoot typically delivers 20 fully edited images of interiors, with the option to add additional shots. Food photography and lifestyle shoots often produce a higher number of edited images due to lighter post-production.

What types of spaces should be photographed in a hotel?

The most important spaces are bedrooms, suites, lobby, bar, restaurant, meeting rooms, spa, gym, and exterior shots. Detail shots of design features or guest amenities also help bring your brand personality to life and can be used across social media and digital campaigns.

Do you provide both wide room shots and detailed lifestyle shots?

Yes. Wide-angle shots showcase the scale of your spaces, while lifestyle and detail shots highlight design touches, service, and atmosphere. Together, they create a complete visual story for your hotel.

Do you also offer food and beverage photography?

Yes. Alongside interiors, I also offer food photography for hotel restaurants, bars, and in-room dining. This ensures your menus look as appealing online as they do in person.

Can you also provide video alongside photography?

Yes. Many hotels now commission video as part of their marketing. I offer short highlight films and brand videos designed for websites, social media, and paid campaigns — a powerful way to engage potential guests.

Do you offer retouching, and how do you handle bedding creases or lighting challenges?

All final images are fully retouched for colour accuracy, lighting balance, and detail. Bedding creases are smoothed during editing, and spaces are carefully lit to feel natural yet polished. The aim is to present a realistic but aspirational impression of your hotel.

How much does professional hotel photography cost in London?

Hotel photography in London typically ranges from £750–£2,000 per day depending on the scope of the project, whether editing and licensing is included and whether the shoot also includes food and video.
My packages offer a range of options and include edited deliverables and licensing in the fee. Get in touch for further details.

How long does a typical hotel photo shoot take?

A full-day interiors shoot usually takes 6–8 hours, depending on the number of spaces. Food shoots may require half a day to a full day. Video shoots may be scheduled alongside photography to maximise efficiency or scheduled on the following day, depending on requirements of the shoot.

What preparation does the hotel team need to do before the photographer arrives?

Rooms and public spaces should be spotless, well-lit, and staged with attention to detail (fresh flowers, ironed bedding, clutter removed) and in line with the corporate style guide, where appropriate. I provide a guide of preparation points when booking a shoot with me.

Who owns the copyright to the hotel photographs?

As the photographer, I retain copyright, but hotels receive full commercial usage rights for marketing purposes across websites, OTAs, social media, and printed materials. This means you are free to use the images wherever you need to promote your hotel.

How do professional photos help with online travel agent (OTA) listings?

OTAs like Booking.com and Expedia prioritise listings with professional visuals because they attract higher engagement. Hotels with high-quality imagery often see more clicks, longer page views, and stronger booking conversion rates.
